Video-A slow whine about slow wine
A recent blog post on 1winedude.com got me thinking! You have heard of the slow food movement but is there a wine equivalent? Have speed tastings (the wine world’s take on speed dating) and TasteLive (a twitter facilitated experience) become the MCDonalds’s equivalent to wine, resulting in a “fast wine” experience? Is this really what wine is about? What does wine mean to you? Join me as I explore the concept of slow wine and ask some questions. I would love to hear what you think, so please leave a comment.
Cheers,

Chris, a thoughtful question, and I don't have a complete answer. Wine for the most part has become a value-added commodity. Not to take Jonathan Nossiter's hard line against the globalization of wine and wine styles, but the decline in value seems to be driven by a complex set of circumstances, and just not by the Parkerization effect. Wineries make wine to sell wine. It seems to be a good thing to drink locally and to support those vintners whose agricultural practices mirror our values, and our tastes. Economics, increased to-market consolidation, the balkinazation of state by state beverage laws, a paucity of differentiation between wineries all lead to the Tesco's and Safeways of the world selling wine based on price alone, bleeding value at the point-of-purchase. So, maybe as wine marketers we need to don our missionary robes and find more effective ways to communicate value and values to our consuming public…See, not even part of the answer … Cork
Cork,
Thanks so much for your very well thought out and articulate response! I agree this is a very complex issue and one no doubt needs to consume a lot of good wine to come up with the right answer. The quest continues…Cheers!
